Jesus, I hate Windows

January 27th, 2005

Do you like your untraceable shit-ton of spam every day? Get used to it, baby, Microsoft just declared they’re not going to fix it. Your Windows must be legal in the near future, or you won’t get any updates from Microsoft. Great, there’s no better way to absolutely insure a ghetto of never-fixed zombie machines [...]

iWork

January 27th, 2005

So Pages is pretty nifty. I just got through with a bit of aggro between Pages and Word. I had a Word doc which is from – I think – WordXP under Windows. Word2004 opens it fine, but Pages complained about the Word version that had created it. Hmm, not a good sign for Pages: [...]

Insult, meet Injury.

January 26th, 2005

More damned snow. About four more inches since late last night. This is just annoying. Until the Blizzard, I was able to keep fallen snow well clear of the walk and driveway, but when it dumped two feet all at once, you have to go to the “just clear as much as you need to” [...]

Not that you care, but miniusa.com sucks rocks

January 25th, 2005

I own a Mini Cooper S, and I goddamned love the thing. It is far and away the best car I have ever owned: BMW, Jaguar, Nissan, Jeep, GM, I’ve had several cars, and the Mini is just the best driving vehicle I’ve ever owned. It is the best handling, zippiest little ride on the [...]

The snow: it arrived

January 24th, 2005

We had a bunch of snow. Fortunately, we didn’t lose power, so our day trapped inside was repleat with hot coffee, email, and Sylvester & Tweety cartoons, which Mona has developed a strong affinity for. Around one in the afternoon I stirred myself to open our south-facing front door. The strong north winds had denuded [...]

Snow

January 23rd, 2005

The weather prediction on the public access channel is 20-30 inches of snow by tomorrow, and near-hurricane winds on Cape Cod. It was in the teens all day today, as the family and I ran some errands. I expect tomorrow to be a day of watching drifting snow from my spot on the couch, coffee [...]

It’s all about the O?

January 21st, 2005

So I am watching Comedy Central (yeah, it’s 1am, I took an unplanned nap from 8-10, so sue me), and overstock.com has a commercial featuring a spokeswoman who ends up nude (presumably; the camera doesn’t pan down, but she’s nekkid as far as you know), talking about jewelry, followed by the logo screen where they [...]

Wow, that was easy

January 20th, 2005

Just upgraded WordPress from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2. The instructions here were just fantastic, and it went perfectly smoothly. I need to get the blacklist and auto-close comments plugins again, or reload the old ones if they still work, but that aside, this upgrade went swimmingly, which is a lot more than I can say for [...]

Stupid law proposal du jour

January 19th, 2005

CA Senate Bill 96 would make web server software and web browsers illegal, in its quest to make P2P software illegal. I hate it when elected officials prove themselves to be incredibly stupid as well as corrupt.

There is no Social Security crisis

January 19th, 2005

And you can find out as much at There Is No Crisis. It’s a blogger effort to stem the tide of false and misleading information out there about Social Security, lies that Bush is spreading about its solvency. It’s solvent, and does a great deal of good, more good than anything else the US government [...]
