“It’s Ghost meets Manchurian Candidate, but with a heart.”

So the GOP has relatively unfettered control of the US government now. Given the benignly liberal nature of the majority of Americans, we somehow have hit upon a loathesome combination of Democrat apathy and Republican fervor, ensuring that the party that has a repressive social agenda has as much ability as possible to foist it on the rest of us. “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.”
It seems like only yesterday that an incompetent fool was throwing me a bone when he accepted the burden of leading the free world. “Whether you voted for me or not, I will do my best to serve your interests and I will work to earn your respect.” He spoke about bipartisanship as if it were a sacred obligation of politicians to work constructively to better the lot of the people who elected them. He obviously had no intention of even recalling how to pronounce “bipartisan” as soon as that speech was over. Not that we expected him to, but hell, who knew his real intentions would be so naked so quickly?
There’s very little to take heart in. Look for the anti-abortion movement to really gain some steam, look for environmental regulations to disintegrate, look for more signs that corporate accounting reform is on a rocky road, and will likely die quietly now that the elections are over. Oh, and war, let’s not forget war.
