Birthday Poem to Madeleine, Nov 21, 2003
Phil Edwards
If all the miles were inches
And the Atlantic Ocean land, it
Would let me come and visit you
As often as you could stand it.
If every mile were half a yard
And the ocean's deeps all shallows,
I'd wade them weekly bearing tea
And Stilton and marshmallows.
But every ocean mile's a mile,
And the ocean's depths are mighty.
So I can't come and hold your hand
As I'm stuck here in Blighty.
Happy birthday, Madeleine
May this soon be behind you.
However far away you are
My love will always find you.
